FDU - The Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art

FDU is a modern art school, which has built a very good reputation in the Czech Republic and throughout Europe and which also develops  cooperation with the USA and Asian coutries. As the name suggests, its educational activities and philosophy follow the inspiring artistic legacy of the Czech-American designer Ladislav Sutnar. With one of its principal projects called The Return of Ladislav Sutnar the faculty aims among others to enhance the public awareness about this important designer both in the Czech Republic and abroad. The faculty is also characterized by interdisciplinarity and interest in so called STEAM education.

Renowned pedagogues of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty od Design and Art lead a broad spectrum of disciplines focused on fine arts and design: Animation and Interactive Art, Metal and Jewellery Design, Fashion Design, Shoe and Fashion Accessories Design, Graphic Design, Illustration Graphic Art, Intermedia, Ceramics, Book Design and Paper Shaping, Comics and Illustration for Children, Painting, Media and Didactic Illustration, Multimedia, New Media, Product Design, Industrial Design, Sculpture and Space, Visual Communication, Applied Photography. The faculty can accept foreign students for short term studies (1 – 2 semesters) with individual tuition in English. Student mobility is based on the Erasmus scheme or bilateral agreements. Participation in the ArtCamp summer school of art is another possibility for short term studies at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art.

The Faculty celebrates achievements in domestic and international competitions, it has significantly contributed to the success of the project Pilsen – European Capital of Culture 2015, runs the Ladislav Sutnar Gallery, annually awards the prestigious Ladislav Sutnar Prize, organizes art courses for the public, including ArtCamp - the International Summer School of Art, organizes the Teendesign competition for high school students and cooperates with many Czech and foreign cultural and educational institutions (e.g. CzechTourism Agency, Youkobo Art Space in Tokyo, Czech and foreign art universities etc.). The faculty is housed in a new, modern building with an original layout of studios and workshops, conceived in the spirit of current world trends.
